Local media to host political forum

The Manchester Times, in partnership with Rooster Radio and On Target News, will host a political forum Thursday, June 27 at Westwood Middle School, featuring candidates running for Manchester city mayor, aldermen and Coffee County mayor.

Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the event will start at 6 p.m.

“With this event we hope to offer voters the opportunity to learn more about the people seeking office,” Manchester Times Editor John Coffelt said.

The 2024 election will not only see three city alderman seats up for grabs, but the city will elect its first new mayor since 2020.

Three candidates are seeking to fill the vacancy left by the passing of County Mayor Judd Matheny. These are Republican and Interim Mayor Dennis Hunt and Independents David Nipper and Roxanne Patton.

During the political forum, candidates will have the opportunity to answer questions about issues facing Manchester and Coffee County.

The eight candidates seeking three alderman seats will have a five or six minute time to introduce themselves. Because of limits of time, the alderman candidates will have a very limited opportunity to respond to questions.

To submit questions for the mayor and county mayor portion of the event, email Jcoffelt@Manchestertimes.com.
