The deadline to submit an alderman appointment application form to the city is Aug. 25.

The form to apply is available at www.cityofmanchestertn.com.

The city charter provides that a vacancy in the office of alderman shall be filled until the next regular election by a majority vote of all the remaining members of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen Mayor-elect Joey Hobbs will vacate his alderman seat Aug. 19 to assume the office of mayor.

To be eligible for and to hold the office of Alderman, a person must be a registered voter of the City of Manchester; be a citizen of the State of Tennessee and a resident of the City of Manchester for one year preceding the day of the election and be at least 18 years of age.

No person shall be eligible for the alderman who has been convicted of malfeasance in office, bribery or other corrupt practice or crime.
