Red Raiders beat Pioneers for first win of the season

The Coffee County Middle Red Raiders beat the Warren County Pioneers 29-12 at Carden-Jarrell Field on Tuesday night for their first win of 2024. 

The Red Raiders would waste no time on the game’s first possession, as Joe Jordan picked up a huge chunk of yards to put Coffee County in prime scoring position on the first play of the game.

Coffee County would punch their way to the end zone soon after, and with only 40 seconds played in the game, the Red Raiders led 6-0.

It wouldn’t take long for Warren County to respond, as the Pioneers went to the house on their first play just 15 seconds later to tie the score at 6-6.

The Red Raiders would find the end zone again on their next possession with a touchdown catch by Brody Crase with 2:40 remaining in the opening quarter. Coffee County would complete a two point conversion and take a 14-6 lead.

Warren County went nowhere on their next drive, turning it over on downs, and it looked like it would be the same for the Red Raiders’ next possession, but Coffee County recovered a muffed punt return by Warren County and the Red Red Raiders were given prime scoring position on the Pioneers’ 19 yard line.

Coffee County would take advantage, and score on a passing play with 1:43 left in the first half along with a good two point conversion to take a 22-6 lead, which they kept until the halftime break.

No team could manage to score in the third quarter, but the Pioneers scored after a long drive that started in the third quarter and lasted until there was 2:21 remaining in the fourth. Warren County would fail the two point conversion and Coffee County stayed ahead, 22-12.

The Red Raiders would score on the next drive with a rushing touchdown by Isaac Barnes and Levi Petty made the extra point field goal to make the score 29-12 with 27 seconds to go in the game.

Warren County would get to possess the ball one more time, but the Red Raiders intercepted a passing play, sealing the victory.

The Coffee County Middle Red Raiders are now 1-2 on the season and will travel to Lewisburg for their next game on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
