Westwood earns conference sweep over Community

The Westwood Lady Rockets played a great defensive game to sneak past the Viqueens 28-22 while the Rockets collected a 38-32 win over the Vikings on Monday night at Joel Vinson Gymnasium.

Westwood’s defense gave themselves an edge at the start, fueling them to a 7-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Each team looked even with six points apiece in the second quarter, but the Lady Rockets took a 13-11 lead into halftime.

The battle continued on into the third quarter with each team scoring seven points, but the Lady Rockets kept a narrow two-point lead heading into the fourth, 20-18.

The Lady Rockets would outscore the Viqueens 8-4 in the final frame and hold on for a 28-22 victory.

With the win, the Lady Rockets improve to a 6-2 overall record.

The Rockets pulled in front at the start, outscoring the Vikings 6-5 in the opening quarter.

Westwood continued to roll in the second quarter, outscoring Community 10-5 to give themselves a 16-11 advantage at the half.

The Rockets would not let up in the third quarter, outscoring the Vikings 11-7 to build a 27-18 advantage heading into the fourth. 

Community would try to make it a game in the fourth quarter, outscoring Westwood 14-11, but the Rockets held on for the 38-32 win.

The win gives the Rockets a 5-3 record for the season so far.
