Red Raiders stung by Yellow Jackets

The CCHS Red Raiders led through two quarters, but a quiet third quarter on offense did them in at Grundy County, giving Coffee County their third loss of the season, 61-57 on Monday night.

Playing their third game in four days, the Red Raiders travelled to Grundy County looking for their second win of the season in a stand-alone, boys only contest.

Both teams went back and forth for the first couple of minutes, but the Red Raiders ended the first quarter on a 13-0 run to take a 19-9 lead going into the second quarter. Brady Wright scored 13 of Coffee County’s 19 first quarter points.

The Yellow Jackets outscored Coffee County 21-12 in the second, but the Raiders still led 31-30 heading into halftime.

Out of halftime, momentum swung completely in Grundy County’s direction, as the Yellow Jackets outscored the Red Raiders 15-5 to take a 45-36 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Red Raiders would try to trim things down in the fourth, but the Jackets held on for the 61-57 win.

With the loss, the Raiders fall to 1-3 on the season, and they will not return until next Tuesday, Dec. 3 against Franklin County at home.
