Westwood sweeps Cascade in DRVC Semi Finals

On Tuesday night, the Lady Rockets defended well in a 28-23 win over the Cascade Lady Champions while the Rockets won in a 56-48 shootout over the Champions, giving both Westwood teams a shot at a DRVC Title.

Westwood Lady Rockets: 28, Cascade Lady Champions: 23

After dispatching #5 seed Forrest in their first round game on Monday, the #4 seed Westwood Lady Rockets turned their attention to #1 seed Cascade.

The first quarter looked more akin to a hockey game, with Cascade outscoring Westwood 3-1, then the Lady Rockets outscored the Champions 7-5 in the second quarter to knot the score at 8-8 entering the halftime break.

Westwood blew the game open in the third, scoring 13 points and surrendering only four to the Lady Champions to pull ahead 21-12 entering the fourth quarter.

Cascade would outscore the Lady Rockets 11-7 in the fourth, but Westwood held on for a 28-23 upset victory and a spot in the DRVC Championship Game.

With their overtime win over #6 seed Community in the first round on Monday, the #3 seed Westwood Rockets set their sights on #2 seed Cascade, who had swept the Rockets in their two regular season meetings.

The Champions had the edge in the first quarter, outscoring Westwood 14-10, but the Rockets erupted for 19 points in the second to help build a 29-23 lead at halftime.

Westwood kept their foot on the gas in the third, outscoring the Champions 21-9 for a 50-32 lead heading into the fourth.

Cascade tried to crawl their way back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Westwood 16-6, but the Rockets held on to win 56-48, punching their ticket to the DRVC Championship Game for a chance to defend their title.

In the other semi final games, the #3 seed Community Viqueens narrowly beat #2 seed Eagleville 24-23 to advance to the Girls Championship Game while the #1 seed Eagleville Eagles defeated #4 Forrest 36-16 to advance to the Boys Championship Game.

The DRVC Championships will take place at Forrest School on Thursday, Dec. 12 with the girls championship between Westwood and Community tipping off at approximately 6:30 p.m. and the boys championship between Westwood and Eagleville taking place right after at around 7:30 p.m.
