Lady Raiders claim DTC Classic Championship

Christmas came a little early for the CCHS Lady Raiders in the form of a 74-35 win over Cumberland County in the DTC Christmas Classic Championship on Monday night in Gordonsville.

In their previous two tournament games against Central Magnet and Clinton, the Lady Raiders won by 39 points or more. That trend would continue in the Championship Game against Cumberland County.

The Lady Raiders would race out to an early double digit lead in the first half, outscoring the Lady Jets 19-8 in the first and 20-11 in the second for a 20-point, 39-19 lead at the half.

Seniors Olivia Vinson and Channah Gannon each compiled double digit point totals at the half: Vinson with 13 points and Gannon with 11.

Out of the halftime break, the Lady Raiders did not let up a single inch, allowing only three points in the third quarter and scoring 21 to pile up a 60-22 lead heading into the fourth, where Coffee County finished things off with a 74-35 win.

The Lady Raiders improve to 12-0 on the season with the victory.

After the game, Gannon was given the Player of the Game award after a 13-point performance.

The Lady Raiders will travel down to Gulf Shores, AL for the Christmas Beach Bash where they will play a trio of games: Friday, Dec. 27 against Parkview Baptist (LA) at noon, Saturday, Dec. 28 against Priceville (AL) at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 29 against Mountain Brook (AL) at 2 p.m.
