Coffee sweeps district battle at Spring Hill

The No. 2 ranked CCHS Lady Raiders moved to 5-0 in district play with a 72-17 thumping of the Spring Hill Lady Raiders while the Red Raiders rattled off another district win with a 50-39 victory over the Raiders on Tuesday night in Spring Hill.

CCHS Lady Raiders: 72, Spring Hill Lady Raiders: 17

After slipping past No. 7 Lincoln County 61-51 on Friday night, Jan. 24, the No. 2 Coffee County Lady Raiders travelled to Spring Hill eyeing their fifth district win of the season.

Coffee County would set the tone early, outscoring Spring Hill 28-6 in the first quarter and 19-4 in the second to mount a massive 47-10 lead at halftime with 11 first half points from sophomore Jules Ferrell and 10 points from Southern Indiana signee Channah Gannon

The onslaught by Coffee County would continue in the second half, as the Lady Raiders outscored Spring Hill 25-7 over the final two quarters to coast to a 72-17 win. Junior Audri Patton would score 10 of her team-leading 14 points in the third quarter.

With the win, the Coffee County Lady Raiders move to 23-0 on the season and 5-0 in 4A District 9 play.

CCHS Red Raiders: 50, Spring Hill Raiders: 39

After a nice bounce-back win over the Lincoln County Falcons on Friday, the Red Raiders were looking to carry that momentum into another district matchup at Spring Hill.

The Red Raiders would have the edge in the first quarter, outscoring Spring Hill 15-6 with eight points coming from senior Cayden Trail.

Spring Hill would fight back in the second by outscoring Coffee 12-8, but the Red Raiders would still hold a 22-18 lead at the end of the first half.

Coffee County would hold Spring Hill to just three points in the third quarter, and despite being outscored 18-17 in the final frame, the Red Raiders would hang on for a 50-39 victory.

The Red Raiders improve to 9-11 on the season with a 3-2 mark in district play.
