Taylor steps away as head volleyball coach

On Monday evening, Coach Andrew Taylor announced that he would be stepping down as head coach of the CCHS Lady Raider volleyball team after spending nearly two decades with the program.

Taylor had been involved with the program since its inception in 2006, starting as an assistant coach to Dan Scroggins, then assuming the head coaching role in 2008.

Coach Taylor’s decision to step down comes after a nearly two-decade long run at the helm that included over 320 wins.

“After two years as an assistant and 17 years as head coach, I have decided to step down to spend more time with my family,” Taylor stated.

The Lady Raider volleyball team saw sustained success early on in Taylor’s tenure, reaching the district championship game in 11 straight years from 2011-2022, including the 2020 season where the team finished just one win short of a State Tournament appearance.

“We had a successful program not only because of great players,” said Taylor. “We also had a dedicated group of coaches and support from the administration and the community.”

When asked about what piece of advice he would give to the next person that fills in the role, Taylor said, “They don’t need any advice from me, but I will be around to support the program and be a resource if called upon.”

Taylor remains at Coffee County Central High School as a teacher and the head coach of the Red Raider boys basketball team.
