HAYES
Brenda Woods Hayes, 81, of Manchester, passed from this life April 13, 2025, at her home surrounded by family. She was born July 24, 1943, in Summerville, Ga., in Chattooga County, the daughter of the late W.G. and Annie Jo Woods. Ms. Hayes graduated from Summerville High School in 1961 and from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She dedicated her life to children around the United States for the next 45 years serving in public school systems in Georgia, Florida, California, Illinois, and Minnesota, before retiring and moving to Tennessee in 2010. After retirement, she continued to serve children as a volunteer in local Tennessee schools. During retirement, she enjoyed traveling on cross-country trips and cruising with family. Ms. Hayes cherished the friendships made with the Magnolia Glen community in Manchester, and close bonds of those who became her extended family in Coffee County. She is preceded in death by her sister, Mrs. Sarah Ann White. Ms. Hayes is survived by a niece, Mrs. Dana (Lance) Davis, of Hillsboro; two great-nephews, Mr. Will Davis, of Hillsboro, and Mr. Ben Davis, of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and a brother-in-law, Mr. Billy White, of Hillsboro. Visitation was Wednesday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services beginning at 1 p.m. with Brother Tony Maxwell, of Aragon, Ga., officiating, Ms. Hayes first-cousin, and Mr. Will Davis delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow immediately in the Hillsboro Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Ms. Brenda W. Hayes to All God’s Children, Manchester, for her years of dedicated service educating children throughout the country.
