SISSOM
Norman Dee Sissom Jr. (also known as N.D.) of Manchester, age 74, passed away witnessed by his wife and sons after a sudden decline in health on April 11, 2025 at Harton Hospital in Tullahoma. He was born on July 4, 1950, in Nashville, to Norman and Lois Sissom who preceded him in death along with father/mother-in-law Wilfred and Evelyn Ploor and brother-in-law Herb Mueller. Norm grew up mostly in Manchester and graduated from Coffee County Central High School in 1968. He was in the Navy from 1971 to 1979 as an Electronics Technician and was stationed in Hawaii, California, Minnesota, and Illinois, where he met his wife, Marilyn, in Milwaukee and they married in January of 1974. In 1979, they moved to Hillsboro when he started working at Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) where he retired in 2007 as a Computer Technician Specialist. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a lifelong University of Tennessee Vols fan and enjoyed attending football games in Knoxville with a friend during his retirement as well as watching golf. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Jean Sissom; sons, Brian (Jeni) Sissom and Eric Sissom; sister, Ramona (Johnnie) Crutcher; brother, Lyle (Lisa) Sissom; brothers-in-law, Tom (Pat) Ploor and Randy (Sue) Ploor; sister-in-law, Char Mueller, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and medical staff who handled Norm’s care. Visitation was held Wednesday, April 16, from noon until 2 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, with funeral services following at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Father Stephen Klasek officiating.
