Raider Retrospective Countdown No. 5: Jennings places third, Bare places sixth at State Championships

S

The 2024-25 school year came recently came to a close for Coffee County Central High School, which in turn also means that no competitive Red Raider sporting event will be held again until next August.

While the CCCHS sports teams continue to hold tryouts and make preparations for the 2025-26 athletic calendar, let’s reflect on the greatest moments from the previous year.

Before we get started, we need to set some ground rules.

Firstly, this list is strictly my opinion and is in no way meant to start any arguments. Everyone has their favorite moment from this past school year, and this list is purely from my perspective. Your top five or top ten moments might be completely different from mine and that’s fantastic. So, if you don’t see one of your favorite moments in this list over the next few weeks, that doesn’t mean it should be any less important to you.

Secondly, this list will comprise of CCCHS sporting events that took place within the 2024-25 school year and with each week, we will take a look at one entry on the countdown. In the week between the No. 2 and No. 1 entries on this countdown, we will review some honorable mentions that just missed out on my top five.

With that out of the way, let’s begin the countdown with the No. 5 entry!

Jennings places third, Bare places sixth at State Championships (From Feb. 26, 2025)

CCCHS had two wrestlers place in the TSSAA State Championships on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22, with Ellysia Jennings placing third in the girls 185-pound weight class and Jianna Bare placing sixth in the 145-pound division.

Jennings started the tournament off right, defeating Bartlett’s Morgan Ragsdale by a fall in the first round, but in the quarterfinals, Jennings would lose in a 14-3 major decision to Blackman’s Jonna Patterson.

Relegated to the consolation bracket, Jennings worked her way through to the Third Place Match where she faced Northwest’s Tyrenoria Munene and won in a 7-1 decision to claim the third step of the podium.

For Jennings, it was a nice improvement over her fifth place run at the 2024 State Tournament as a freshman.

Jiana Bare would be the only other wrestler to place for Coffee County in the tournament with a sixth-place finish in the girls 145-pound division.

Bare lost her first-round matchup to Shelby Williams of Gibbs in a 14-11 sudden victory, then fought her way through the consolation bracket to place sixth after losing in the consolation semifinals to Ali Bryant of Blackman by a fall and losing the Fifth Place Match by a fall to Kemoria Turner of Cleveland.

Jasmine Norris (120) also represented Coffee County in the girl’s tournament, but her tournament ended in the first round of the consolation bracket.

Aiden Lindsay (126), the lone representative for the Red Raiders in the Class AA Boys Tournament, would lose his first-round bout with Hayden Hunt of Green Hill in a close 3-1 decision and his tournament came to an end in the third round of consolations with a loss to Kaden Clopton of Science Hill in an 8-5 decision.

Next Week

The countdown continues with the No. 4 entry on this list; a muddy matchup on the gridiron that took place on Halloween Night.
