CCCHS water tests positive for lead

Staff Report

An unspecified water source at Coffee County Central High School has tested positive for lead, according to a notice received by parents on July 1 from Director of Schools Scott Hargrove.

The level of lead in the water at CCCHS from said source was above 20 parts per billion, a threshold that requires parents and guardians be notified.

Coffee County Schools routinely perform lead testing on any of the schools that were built before January 1, 1998 and the most recent round of testing occurred in June.

In the notice, Hargrove assures that the testing was conducted in a timely fashion and that the affected water source has been removed from service. He also notes that corrective measures will be made to this water source and will be retested before being made available to students and staff.

“Please be assured that Coffee County Schools recognizes that parents and guardians have placed their children into our care,” Hargrove stated. “We will take all the actions necessary to keep our students as safe as possible.”
