Officials meet at Hillsboro light

Representatives from TDOT and the infrastructure consulting firm AECOM met with Coffee County officials on July 9 at the intersection of Hwy 41 and State Route 127 to scope out the area for future improvements.

Coffee County Mayor Dennis Hunt, Sheriff Chad Partin, Road Superintendent Benton Bartlett and Assistant Road Superintendent Joe Joe Dobson were on hand to discuss some of the issues the County faces where the two roads meet.

Concerns that were raised regarding the intersection included visibility issues when turning onto 41 from 127 and increased traffic flow whenever issues occur on Interstate 24 and motorists have to be redirected through Hillsboro.

Partin also noted that his biggest concern was ensuring safety for school buses at Hillsboro Elementary.

The improvements will include new galvanized poles on each corner, radar detectors and new pedestrian crosswalk buttons on two sides.

No start date was mentioned for the project, but it was noted by one of the TDOT representatives that the project could take up to two years.
