CCMS Raiders shut out by Wildcats

Turnovers proved to be a reoccurring issue for Coffee County Middle School football Tuesday evening.

Back home to face rival Tullahoma following their first win of the season the week before, the Red Raiders were unable to reach the end zone on the way to a 34-0 loss.

Trailing 14-0 to open the second quarter, Coffee County drove all the way down to the Tullahoma 13-yard line before a Sam Geddes fumble gave the ball back to the Wildcats. The Red Raiders’ next drive also ended on a turnover, this time when quarterback Andrew Boles was intercepted at the Tullahoma 29-yard line for a 71-yard pick six.

Now down by three touchdowns, Coffee County’s ensuing possession ended with the Wildcats’ Josh Vincent picking off Boles around midfield. Tullahoma took advantage, capping off the drive with an eight-yard run into the end zone with six seconds remaining in the half. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful this time around, sending the Red Raiders into the locker room down 27-0.

Opening the third quarter with the ball, Coffee County gave it right back to Tullahoma when a fumble from Kaden Spencer was recovered by the Wildcats for a 23-yard gain. Tullahoma took care of the last eight yards on its first play of the drive and followed this up with the PAT to make it a 34-0 lead.

The Red Raiders gave themselves a chance to avoid the shutout in the fourth quarter after a fumble recovery set them up on the Wildcat 19-yard line. Unable to pick up the first down, Coffee County sent Levi Petty out for the field goal attempt. Petty’s kick landed short of the uprights, leaving the Red Raiders down by 34 and ultimately bringing the game to what would be its final score when the clock struck zero.

Coffee County (1-4) will remain at home to host EO Coffman next week. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
