PREP ROUNDUP: Coffee County volleyball sweeps Franklin

Coffee County volleyball got its week off to a good start Tuesday evening.

Back in action following Labor Day weekend, the Lady Raiders picked up a 3-0 home victory over Franklin County, winning by set scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-22.

Danni Hillis led the team in kills with six. Allysa Goon followed with four, just ahead of Morgen Spears with three. Carrington Saner had two kills. Hayleigh Harris, Cailey Sturgill and Cara Newlin each had one.

Andon Selvog recorded six aces. Hillis, Jenslee Nogodula and Taylor Brinkley all had two. Goon and Spears added one ace each.

Spears and Saner were both credited with two blocks, just ahead of Hillis with one.

Brinkley led the way in assists with 11. Selvog added four. Spears and Isabelle Saner both had one assist each.

Nogodula was Coffee County’s digs leader, finishing the match with six. Goon followed with five, just ahead of Hillis with four. Selvog notched three. Up next was Harris, Brinkley and Carrington Saner with two each. Spears, Sturgill, Isabelle Saner and Emma Haley each had one dig.

Coffee County (5-2) hits the road to face Tullahoma at 6 p.m. Thursday.

CHS golf competes at Keith Maxwell Invitational

The Coffee County golf team traveled to McMinnville Tuesday morning to take part in the Keith Maxwell Invitational, taking third in the boys’ team standings out of 11 teams with a 318 and fourth out of six in the girls’ standings with a 208.

Lawrence County took first place in the boys’ standings with a 311, followed by Cookeville in second place with a 315. Dekalb County took first place in the girls’ competition with a 161, followed by Cookeville in second with a 188 and White County in third with a 196, respectively.

Individual results for the Red Raiders included a 77 for Jack Stowe, a 79 for Noah Costello, an 80 for Landon Collins and an 82 for Levi Rossman. On the girls’ side, the Lady Raiders’ scores included a 100 for Karaline Matthews. Both Karsyn Riddle and Ella Arnold carded scores of 108, but only one counted toward the team’s total.

Coffee County travels to Tullahoma’s Lakewood Golf & Country Club to face Tullahoma and Warren County Thursday afternoon. Tee times are set to begin at 4 p.m.

CHS girls’ soccer falls to Warren

The Lady Raiders were unable to get back in the win column in their return home Tuesday night, falling 4-0 to Warren County at Raider Academy.

Shots on target from Coffee County came from Lilly Matherne and Tia Buchanan.

Coffee County will travel to Gatlinburg this weekend to take part in the Smoky Mountain Cup. Games will be played Friday through Sunday.

MIDDLE SCHOOL RESULTS

WMS volleyball takes down Forrest

The Lady Rockets took care of business at home Tuesday evening. Hosting Forrest, the Westwood varsity squad won in straight sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-22, respectively.

The JV team lost 2-1, winning the first set 25-23 before falling 25-14 and 15-9 in the second and third sets.

Westwood returns to action with a home match against Eagleville at 4:30 p.m. this evening.

WMS girls’ soccer beats St. Andrews-Sewanee

The Lady Rockets came out on top over St. Andrews-Sewanee Tuesday night, winning the home matchup 2-1 on eighth grade night.

Westwood will make the trip to Webb for a 6 p.m. contest on Monday.
