CHS volleyball sweeps Grundy

Coffee County volleyball came out on top in its regular-season home finale Wednesday evening.
Hosting Grundy County, the Lady Raiders did not let up a set on the way to a 3-0 victory at Joe Frank Patch Gymnasium. The win additionally gave Coffee County a regular season sweep of the Lady Jackets, with the Lady Raiders previously picking up a 3-0, season-opening road win in Coalmont on Aug. 18.
After taking the first set 25-14, the Lady Raiders found themselves in a tighter second set in which Grundy County briefly took the lead late at two separate points. Trailing 21-20, Coffee County went on to pick up the next five points to win the set 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Raiders went on to claim the third set in dominant fashion, winning 25-12 to complete the three-set sweep.
Danni Hillis and Hayleigh Harris both led the team in kills with eight each. Allysa Goon, Morgen Spears and Cara Newlin each followed with five. Carrington Saner, Krislyn Martin and Cailey Sturgill all added two kills each. Andon Selvog, Isabelle Saner and Paisley Dyer each had one.
Goon and Sturgill both finished with two aces to share the top spot in this category. Up next was Hillis, Spears and Taylor Brinkley with one each.
Carrington Saner was the team’s blocks leader with two, just ahead of Harris with one.
Brinkley led the way in assists with 12. Selvog followed with 10. Isabelle Saner added seven assists. Jenslee Nogodula came away with three. Newlin added two assists. Harris had one.
Nogodula was credited with 17 digs to lead the category. Selvog notched five, just ahead of Hillis with four. Newlin and Isabelle Saner both recorded three digs each. Sturgill and Carrington Saner each followed with two. Harris, Goon and Brinkley all had one dig each.
Coffee County (15-6) closes out its regular-season schedule with a road district match at Lawrence County this evening. The Lady Raiders’ previous contest against the Lady Cats ended in a 3-2 loss in Manchester on Sept. 9.
Start time for Thursday’s match is set for 6 p.m.
