1 injured after accidental fire at Whitehaven apartments causes $15K in damage, MFD says

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was seriously injured after a fire broke out at a Whitehaven apartment building early Thursday morning, according to the Memphis Fire Department (MFD).

The department said firefighters “quickly” brought the fire under control after it was reported just after midnight at the Gardenview Apartments on Whitaker Drive. FOX13 arrived to find flames bursting out of the building — with extensive damage.

MFD said one person was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Their gender and age were not released.

No firefighters were injured, MFD said.

The department said investigators ruled the fire as an electrical accident, adding it caused about $15,000 in damage.
