PREP ROUNDUP: High school, middle school teams earn Monday wins

Multiple area teams were in action across the area Monday evening.
At the high school level, the Coffee County tennis team traveled to Cannon County for a road rematch.
The Lady Raiders came out on top 6-1 in their match, while the Red Raiders finished with a 2-2 draw due to each team being limited to three players.
Girls’ singles wins for Coffee County included Kati McInturff, who won 8-1 over Mackenzie McCurry. Isabelle Saner added an 8-4 win over Bailey Sissom. Illy Allen and Jayna Anderson won their respective matches by scores of 9-8, with Allen winning her tiebreak 7-2 over Bella Mason and Anderson winning hers 7-4 over Ellie Chapman.
In girls’ doubles, the team of Saner and McInturff won 8-2 over the team of Sissom and McCurry. The team of Allen and Carrington Saner also won their match, taking down Mason and Hannah Pitts 8-3.
On the boys’ side, Colin Bryant won 8-2 over Jaden McMackins. Aidan Hayes also took down Korbin Schultheis by a score of 8-2.
Coffee County remains on the road to take on Shelbyville at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The match will be played at the Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Center.
Middle School Baseball
Coffee County 8, White County 7
The Red Raiders opened their week with a close home win over the Warriors Monday.
Mason Floyd, Tripp Trussler, Aiden McNeese, Cooper Melton and Tyce DePalma each had one hit for a team total of five.
Coffee County also had four RBI over the course of the game, with one each for Floyd, Trussler, McNeese and DePalma.
Floyd pitched the first three innings, coming off with five strikeouts, one hit, two runs and three walks. Bentley Ater took his place in the top of the fourth inning, wrapping up his outing in the top of the sixth with two strikeouts, one hit, four runs and five walks. Kasen Shelton followed, finishing the inning with one hit, one run and two walks. Braxton Swack closed it out in the top of the seventh, striking out one and holding White County to one walk over the game’s remainder.
Coffee County (6-3) returns to action with a road game at Stewarts Creek Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
Harris 6, Westwood 1
The Rockets were held to one run in the top of the fifth inning on the way to a road loss Monday.
CJ Chavis Jr. came away with two of Westwood’s four hits. Max Stewart and Owen Holder both had one hit each.
Luke Christian got it started on the mound, coming off in the bottom of the fourth inning with three strikeouts, three hits, two runs and three walks. Griffyn Woods closed it out from there, adding three strikeouts, three hits, four runs and six walks through the game’s remainder.
Westwood (9-7) returns home to host Harris at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Middle School Softball
Westwood splits Huntland doubleheader
The Lady Rockets kicked off their week with a pair of home games Monday evening.
Taking on Huntland, Westwood opened it up with a 15-3 victory in the first game before falling 6-2 in the nightcap.
The Lady Rockets finished the first game with 14 hits, led by Maleah Chavis with four. This included a three-run, inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the third inning. Elly Wild followed with three hits. McKenna Kehely and McClayne Finch both had two hits each. Callie Kapise, Harper Hiles and Izzy Sartain each had one hit.
Chavis brought in six of the team’s 12 RBI. Wild, Kehely, Kapise, Hiles, Sartain and Finch had one RBI each.
Keheley pitched all four innings, finishing the game with five strikeouts, one hit, three runs and three walks.
Westwood wrapped up the second game with three hits, including one each for Chavis, Sartain and Finch. This included a two-run, inside-the-park home run for Finch in the fifth inning. The home run also credited Finch with both of the team’s RBI.
Kehely got it started in the circle, coming out after the first inning with two strikeouts, two hits, four runs and three walks. Skyleigh Cooper took her place for the game’s remainder, adding two strikeouts, three hits and two runs.
Westwood (5-5) remains at home to host Moore County Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
