Tennessee House passes bill to ban kratom sales, possession

F

A new bill in Tennessee that could significantly change how kratom is regulated is advancing. House Bill 1649 passed the House Thursday.

While current law allows sales under certain conditions, this proposal would make it illegal to possess, sell, or distribute the substance altogether.

Under the bill, simple possession would be a misdemeanor; while selling or manufacturing kratom could result in felony charges and years in prison.

The proposal also includes new testing requirements in overdose cases and would add kratom to workplace drug-testing programs.
