LINCOLN COUNTY, Mont. — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said deputies stopped a stolen pickup after a chase that started near Yaak and went through Libby and Troy on April 11, 2026.

A caller reported around 6:12 p.m. that three boys had taken a truck and were driving toward Libby on Pipe Creek Road while the caller followed behind.

Deputies found the brown Ford pickup in the Pipe Creek area. Authorities said the truck was traveling faster than the posted 55 mph limit and crossing the center line.

When deputies tried to stop it, the juvenile driver kept going. The truck went into the Sheldon Flats area, turned around and left the pavement while trying to get away.

The press release said the chase continued through Libby and west on Highway 2 into Troy. Deputies said the truck hit 70 mph in a 25 mph zone there.

Deputies got ahead of the pickup and used a boxing maneuver to stop it. The three juveniles were detained without further incident.

The 16-year-old driver was charged with felony theft of a light vehicle, felony aggravated fleeing from or eluding a peace officer and felony criminal endangerment. Officials said the driver was taken to Bonner County Juvenile Detention in Sandpoint, Idaho.
