MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Gunfire erupted early Wednesday morning in a South Memphis neighborhood, killing a man and seriously wounding his girlfriend, police said.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), the shooting call came in just before 3 a.m. to Alice Drive between Benton and Marjorie streets. FOX13 arrived to find an active police scene with crime scene tape and MPD vehicles surrounding the area.

Police said officers found a man had been shot to death while his girlfriend was had multiple gunshot wounds. The woman’s injuries were considered life-threatening, police added.

Police said a man was detained in connection with the shooting but did not further elaborate.
