PREP ROUNDUP: CHS baseball falls to Cookeville

The Coffee County baseball team came up short in its rematch with the Cavaliers Tuesday evening.
Traveling to Cookeville one day after picking up a 4-3 home win over their district foe, the Red Raiders had less luck this time around in a 5-2 loss.
Preston Steele and Matt Moore each had one hit for a team total of two. Steele’s hit came as a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, giving him both of the team’s two RBI as well.
Leiton Yancer took the loss on the mound, coming off in the bottom of the fifth inning with six strikeouts, six hits, five runs and six walks. Kasen Shores took his place, adding two walks through the game’s remainder.
Coffee County (14-11, 3-3 district) returns to the Cookeville area to take on Upperman Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

Coffee County 33, White County 32
Coffee County completed the second-half road comeback in Sparta Tuesday night.
Trailing White County 19-0 at halftime, the Lady Raiders came back to win by a single point on a touchdown in the final seconds.
This was Coffee County’s second win in as many days following the team’s 25-14 victory over Boyd Christian in Manchester Monday night.
Middle School Baseball
Lincoln County 5, Coffee County 4
The Red Raiders cut their deficit to one run in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to overcome the Falcons in a home loss Tuesday.
Coffee County posted seven hits over the course of the game, led by Mason Floyd and Tripp Trussler with two each. Braxton Swack, Cooper Melton and Gabe Elrod each had one hit.
Trussler and Elrod each had one RBI for two as a team.
Kasen Shelton pitched the first two innings, finishing with two strikeouts, three hits, two runs and two walks. Up next was Elrod, who added three strikeouts, four hits, three runs and two walks over the remaining five innings.
Coffee County (7-5) remains at home to host Tullahoma at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Middle School Softball
Cascade 13, Westwood 2
The Lady Rockets found themselves in an early hole on the way to a four-and-a-half inning road loss Tuesday.
The team finished the game with three hits, including one each for Maleah Chavis, Addison Dinwiddie and McKenna Kehely.
Chavis and Kehely each had one RBI for two on the day.
Kehely went the distance in the circle, wrapping it up with eight strikeouts, seven hits, 13 runs and eight walks over the course of the game.
Westwood (5-9) returns home to host Liberty Thursday evening. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
