Local teams finish week with wins

Westwood baseball got back on track Saturday, holding off a late push from Huntland to pick up an 8-7, five-inning road win.
Luke Christian, Brock Christian, Casen Francisco, Logan McKenzie, Jackson Vernon and Will Levengood each had one hit for a team total of six.
Francisco was credited with three of the team’s five RBI. Luke Christian had two RBI.
CJ Chavis Jr. struck out six and held Huntland to four walks through the first four innings. Vernon took his place to start the bottom of the fifth, coming off with two strikeouts, two hits, seven runs and four walks. Levengood followed to close out the inning and added one hit.
Westwood (6-2) returns home to host Cascade Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
Middle School Softball
Coffee County takes Whitthorne doubleheader
The Lady Raiders were back in action Saturday, hosting Whitthorne for a pair of games.
Coffee County dominated both matchups, winning the first 11-1 in four innings before holding the Lady Tigers scoreless on the way to an 11-0, four-inning victory. In the first game, Siri Cruz led the Lady Raiders at the plate with two of their six hits.
Cruz also came away with four of the team’s seven RBI. Aubrey Brown followed with two. Amaya Campbell had one RBI.
Campbell pitched a complete game, striking out five and holding Whitthorne to two hits and one run across all four innings.
In the second game, Coffee County posted 13 hits, with two each for Campbell, Brown, Cruz, Liberty Hill and Kayda Ferrell. This included a home run for Campbell in the top of the second inning.
Cruz also led the team in RBI with four of its 11. Hill added two RBI.
In the circle, Cruz pitched a complete game of her own, finishing with six strikeouts and one hit through all four innings.
The wins put Coffee County at 6-2 on the season.
FRIDAY RESULTS Middle School Baseball
Coffee County 3, Stewarts Creek 2
It went an extra inning, but the Red Raiders kept their undefeated start to the season intact with a close home win over Stewarts Creek Friday.
Tied at 2-2 after seven innings, a sacrifice bunt from Tripp Trussler in the bottom of the eighth brought Mason Floyd home from third base to secure the win.
Floyd, Trussler, Braxton Swack and Aiden Mc-Neese each had one hit for four total.
Trussler had both of the team’s RBI.
Floyd was on the mound through the first four innings, coming off in the top of the fifth with six strikeouts, one run and five walks. Swack took his place for the game’s remainder, adding another three strikeouts as well as one hit, one run and one walk on the way to earning the win.
With the win, Coffee County moved to 4-0 on the season.
Forrest 14, Westwood 8
The Rockets’ fourgame winning streak came to an end in a home loss to Forrest Friday evening.
The team finished with 10 hits, led by Levengood, Griffyn Woods, Brock Christian and Owen Holder with two each. Aidyn Jones and Luke Christian both had one hit each.
Woods posted two of Westwood’s five RBI. Jones, Brock Christian and Luke Christian had one RBI each.
Woods got it started on the mound, surrendering five runs and four walks before coming off in the top of the first inning. Luke Christian took his place, staying on through the top of the sixth inning and adding five strikeouts, six hits, six runs and one walk in this span. Brock Christian followed for the game’s remainder, finishing it off with one strikeout, two hits, three runs and three walks.

Coffee County 12, Franklin County 0
The Lady Raiders got it done in four innings on the way to a road victory Friday.
Coffee County finished the game with seven hits, led by Addie Haley with two. Brown, Cruz, Hill, Britlyn Jones and Izzy Haynes had one hit each.
Brown brought in three of the team’s eight RBI, followed by Hill with two.
In the circle, Cruz struck out seven Rebelette batters over the first three innings. Brown followed for the bottom of the fourth inning to finish the game and complete the team no-hitter.
THURSDAY RESULTS High School Boys’ Soccer
CHS boys fall in season opener
The Coffee County boys’ soccer team traveled to Shelbyville to kick off its 2026 schedule with a Class 3A District 9 matchup Thursday night.
The Red Raiders were unable to get on the board over the course of the game, falling 3-0 to the Golden Eagles.
Middle School Softball
Cannon County 9, Westwood 8 The Lady Rockets came up just short on the road Thursday evening.
Taking on Cannon County, Westwood jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before falling behind in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Rockets went on to add three runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Cannon County lead to one, but this was the closest they would get before the game’s conclusion.
Westwood finished the game with nine hits, led by Maleah Chavis with three. McClayne Finch, Paisley Prater, Elly Wild, Harper Hiles, Callie Kapise and Baileigh Mancha each had one hit.
Chavis, Finch, Prater and Wild had one RBI each.
Skyleigh Cooper got it started in the circle, coming out in the bottom of the fourth inning with three strikeouts, eight hits, seven runs and four walks. McKenna Kehely closed it out from there, adding six strikeouts, two hits, two runs and four walks through the game’s remainder.
The loss put Westwood at 1-3 on the season.
TUESDAY, MARCH 10 RESULTS High School Softball
CHS holds off Siegel
Coffee County opened its week with a road win last Tuesday.
Traveling to Murfreesboro to take on Siegel, the Lady Raiders jumped out early and did just enough to overcome a late push from the Lady Stars to preserve a 10-9 victory.
Coffee County finished with 10 hits, led by Ella Arnold with four. Cara Newlin added two hits. Lily Norman, Maggie Montgomery, Taylor McBride and Bailey Hale all had one hit each.
The team also posted seven RBI, with Norman taking the top spot with three. Newlin, Montgomery, Hale and Raelyn Wainwright each had one RBI.
Haleigh Skipper pitched through the first four innings, coming out of the circle with five strikeouts, four hits, three runs and two walks to earn the win. Norman followed for the final three innings, picking up the save with six strikeouts, six hits, six runs and three walks in this span.
High School Tennis
CHS swept by Shelbyville
The Coffee County tennis team returned to the courts for a home match against Shelbyville last Tuesday afternoon.
Neither the Red Raiders or Lady Raiders picked up a win this time around, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams falling 7-0.

Westwood 9, Moore County 2
The Lady Rockets picked up their first win of the season in dominant fashion on the road last Tuesday evening.
Westwood finished the game with 10 hits, led by Wild and Kehely with two each. This included a home run for Kehely in the top of the third inning. Chavis, Finch, Kapise, Hiles, Mancha and Izzy Sartain each had one hit.
Kehely drove in two of the team’s six RBI. Chavis, Kapise, Hiles and Mancha had one each.
Cooper pitched a complete game, striking out eight and holding Moore County to four hits, two runs and three walks across all seven innings.
DeKalb County 5, Coffee County 0
The Lady Raiders’ three-game winning streak came to an end in a shutout home loss last Tuesday.
Coffee County posted four hits over the course of the game, led by Haley with three. Cruz had one hit.
Cruz pitched the first five innings, coming out with three strikeouts, seven hits, three runs and three walks. Campbell followed through the game’s remainder, striking out three and adding two more hits.
MONDAY, MARCH 9 RESULTS High School Tennis
CHS splits with Franklin County
The Coffee County tennis team was back in action last Monday, hosting Franklin County for a boys’ and girls’ matchup.
The Red Raiders picked up their second straight team victory, taking down the Rebels 6-2. The Lady Raiders fell 5-2 in their contest.
Boys’ singles results included 8-4 victories for Colin Bryant over Levi Carl and Aidan Hayes over Colton Cox, respectively. Christian Galindo took down Carter Reed in an 8-3 final. Boys’ singles losses for Coffee County included Ethan Hayes, who fell to William Orr by a score of 8-4. Alfonso Cornejo also came up short in an 8-6 match against Lane Blevans.
In boys’ doubles, it was a clean sweep for the Red Raiders across both matches. The team of Ethan and Aidan Hayes won 8-3 over the team of Orr and Karl. The team of Bryant and Galindo also won 8-3, defeating the team of Cox and Reed.
On the girls’ side, Isabelle Saner won 8-1 in her singles match over Sadie Wells. Jayna Anderson kept it close, but fell 8-6 to Eshita Patel in her singles match. The remaining three singles matches were Coffee County forfeits.
The girls’ doubles team of Saner and Anderson came out on top 8-3 in their matchup, but the remaining doubles match was another Coffee County forfeit.
Middle School Baseball
Westwood 6, Huntland 0
The Rockets picked up their fourth straight win last Monday evening, shutting out Huntland on the way to a five-inning home victory.
Westwood finished the game with seven hits, led by Francisco with three. Woods followed with two hits. McKenzie and Brock Christian both had one hit each.
McKenzie recorded two of the team’s five RBI. Woods, Francisco and Brock Christian each had one.
Brock Christian earned the win on the mound, striking out seven while holding Huntland to two walks. Max Stewart took his place in the top of the fourth inning, adding another four strikeouts while limiting Huntland to one hit through the game’s remainder.
Middle School Softball
Cascade 7, Westwood 0
The Lady Rockets were held scoreless in their return to the field last Monday, falling at home in two and a half innings to the Lady Champions.
Westwood finished the game with one hit.
In the circle, the Lady Rockets wrapped up the evening with four strikeouts, two hits, seven runs and five walks.
