The Coffee County girls’ soccer team was back on its home turf for a Class 3A District 6 matchup against Franklin County Monday evening.

Coming off a 2-0 district loss at Warren County the week before, the Lady Raiders once again came out on the losing end this time around, falling 5-1 to the Rebelettes at Raider Academy.

A scoreless start to the game saw keeper Kayda Ferrell prevent multiple Franklin County shots from getting into the net over the course of the first 20 minutes of play. The Rebelettes were able to get one into the goal with 17:35 left in the first half, then followed up with another at the 15:25 mark to ultimately take a 2-0 lead into the break.

Franklin County continued to push ahead early in the second half, delivering another shot into the back of the net with 37:04 remaining to put Coffee County in a 3-0 hole. Neither team scored again for around 30 more minutes of play, until the Rebelettes made it a 4-0 game with 8:41 to go.

The Lady Raiders were able to avoid the shutout thanks to a goal from Lilly Matherne, who scored with 6:48 on the clock to cut the Franklin County lead to three. The Rebelettes answered with one more of their own within the final minute to bring the game to what would be its final score.

Coffee County (3-6-1, 1-2 district) travels to Spring Hill to take on Battle Creek Thursday. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
