PREP ROUNDUP: CHS tennis sweeps Cannon

The Coffee County tennis team got back in the win column Tuesday afternoon.
Welcoming Cannon County, both the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders closed out the day with 5-2 team victories.
Boys’ singles wins included 8-1 victories for Aidan Hayes and Christian Galindo over Jayden McMackins and Korbin Schultheis, respectively. Colin Bryant added an 8-2 win over Ethan Sissom. Alfonso Cornejo won his match by forfeit.
In boys’ doubles, the team of Galindo and Aidan Hayes won 8-2 over the team of McMackins and Schultheis.
Girls’ singles results included an 8-2 win for Carrington Saner over Ellie Chapman. Isabelle Saner and Kati McInturff won their matches by scores of 8-3 over Bailey Sissom and Mackenzie McCurry, respectively.
Both Coffee County girls’ doubles teams earned victories in their respective matches. The team of McInturff and Isabelle Saner won 8-5 over the team of Sissom and McCurry. The team of Illy Allen and Carrington Saner completed the girls’ doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over the team of Hannah Pitts and Bella Mason.
Coffee County remains at home to host Lincoln County Wednesday in a match rescheduled from March 17.
High School Boys’ Soccer
Coffee County 2, Lincoln County 1
The Red Raiders got back in the win column with a district road victory over the Falcons Tuesday.
Coffee County (2-4, 2-1 district) returns home for a district match against Columbia at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Middle School Baseball
Coffee County 12, Battle Creek 9
The Red Raiders returned to action with a high-scoring road victory Tuesday.
The team finished with 14 hits, led by Mason Floyd and Braxton Swack with three each. Tripp Trussler and Cooper Melton followed with two hits each. Bentley Ater, Aiden McNeese, Tyler Campbell and Lawson Maychrzak each had one hit.
Swack brought in five of the Red Raiders’ nine RBI. Trussler, McNeese, Melton and Maychrzak had one RBI each.
Swack pitched the first two innings, finishing with three strikeouts, three hits, seven runs and five walks. Floyd followed from there, adding three strikeouts, two runs and five walks until coming off in the bottom of the seventh inning. Ater took his place, closing it out with two strikeouts, one hit and one walk.
Coffee County (5-3) hosts White County for a 5 p.m. game Monday evening.
Westwood 13, Cannon County 11
The Rockets picked up their second home win in as many days Tuesday in another close game.
Westwood posted 11 hits, including two each for Max Stewart, Casen Francisco and Jackson Vernon. CJ Chavis Jr., Brock Christian, Luke Christian, Will Levengood and Owen Holder each had one hit.
The Rockets also finished the game with 11 RBI, led by Francisco with three. Chavis Jr. and Luke Christian followed with two each. Stewart, Holder, Vernon and Brock Christian each had one RBI.
Levengood got it started on the mound, coming off in the top of the sixth inning with two strikeouts, seven hits, eight runs and two walks on the way to earning the win. Stewart came on in relief, adding three strikeouts, one hit, three runs and one walk through the game’s remainder.
Westwood (9-6) travels to Harris for a 6:15 p.m. game Monday evening.
Middle School Softball
Westwood 5, Fayetteville City 3
The Lady Rockets followed up on Monday’s home win with another one Tuesday.
Westwood recorded seven hits over the course of the game, with two each for Paisley Prater and Elly Wild. Maleah Chavis, Callie Kapise and McKenna Kehely each had one hit.
Wild was credited with two of the team’s three RBI, with Kehely adding one.
Kehely also pitched a complete game, striking out 12 and holding Fayetteville City to four hits, three runs and seven walks across all seven innings.
Westwood (3-4) travels to Tullahoma for a 5 p.m. game Thursday.
