PREP ROUNDUP: CHS boys’ soccer falls in season opener

The Coffee County boys’ soccer team traveled to Shelbyville to kick off its 2026 schedule with a Class 3A District 9 matchup Thursday night.
The Red Raiders were unable to get on the board over the course of the game, falling 3-0 to the Golden Eagles.
Coffee County will host district foe Franklin County for its home opener Tuesday. Start time is set for 7 p.m.

Cannon County 9, Westwood 8
The Lady Rockets came up just short on the road Thursday evening.
Taking on Cannon County, Westwood jumped out to an early 5-0 lead before falling behind in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Rockets went on to add three runs in the top of the seventh to cut the Cannon County lead to one, but this was the closest they would get before the game’s conclusion.
Westwood finished the game with nine hits, led by Maleah Chavis with three. McClayne Finch, Paisley Prater, Elly Wild, Harper Hiles, Callie Kapise and Baileigh Mancha each had one hit.
Chavis, Finch, Prater and Wild had one RBI each.
Skyleigh Cooper got it started in the circle, coming out in the bottom of the fourth inning with three strikeouts, eight hits, seven runs and four walks. McKenna Kehely closed it out from there, adding six strikeouts, two hits, two runs and four walks through the game’s remainder.
Westwood (1-3) is back on the road to face Huntland Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
