Sentencing delayed for admitted Young Dolph shooter as court hearing reset
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A sentencing hearing for the self-admitted gunman in the murder of Memphis rapper Young Dolph has been delayed.
On Monday, Cornelius Smith’s court hearing was reset to mid-May.
Attorneys for both sides appeared in court Monday morning to reach a final resolution on Smith. They agreed to a plea deal but they still have not worked out where he’ll be held and if he’ll be held in solitary confinement for his own protection.

Smith is the third and final suspect in the Dolph murder investigation.
He confessed to the November 2021 murder of Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Thornton Jr., when Smith testified against Johnson. Smith told the court that he and Johnson was executing a hit put out by Big Jook — the late brother of rapper Yo Gotti.
Young Dolph, whose real name as Adolph Thornton Jr., was shot and killed Nov. 17, 2021, while at Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies — a business he frequented when he was in Memphis.
Since his death, Justin Johnson was found guilty on all counts and received a life sentence, while Hernandez Govan was acquitted last summer after he was accused of organizing Dolph’s murder.
Smith is the last person in the murder case whose situation has not been resolved. He is set to appear in court Monday morning for a disposition hearing.
FOX13 will be in the courtroom and will provide updates to this story as they come in.
