Speeding with fist sized bags of marijuana

A man didn’t see the risk of doing 86 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone while allegedly having large amounts of marijuana in his car Jan. 17.
Tennessee State Trooper Chris Spradley said he was on the Monroe County section of Interstate 75 around 4:40 a.m. when a car approached him from the rear at a high rate of speed. Spradley was able to use his radar and saw the car was doing 86 mph in a 70 mph zone and let him pass so he could pull him over.
Spradley said the car stopped on the shoulder of the interstate and, when he approached the passenger side of the car, he could smell what appeared to be marijuana coming from inside the car.
Spradley said he told the driver, Adam Sinclair Mobley, why he’d stopped him and then asked for the usual license and registration. He then asked about the smell of marijuana and Mobley allegedly said it was Delta 9, a legal THC product.
Spradley said he again asked for the license and registration and Mobley opened his glove compartment and Spradley said he saw a bag of suspected marijuana the size of his fist and a grinder in the compartment.
Spradley asked Mobley to step out of the car then and handcuffed him, saying he was being detained for a vehicle search.
Spradley said Mobley was cooperative, noting there were two more bags of marijuana in the glove compartment and there was a gun in the driver’s door.
Spradley said he found the other two bags along with several containers of THC wax and oil, along with another grinder. He also found the gun and had dispatch run it. It was not reported stolen, but it also showed Mobley’s carry permit had been suspended due to being a convicted felon.
Spradley said Mobley also did poorly on several field sobriety tests.
Mobley, 49, Fisk Avenue, Chattanooga, was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI, possession of handgun while under the influence and speeding.
