CCMS basketball splits with Warren County

After a break from games during Thanksgiving week, Coffee County Middle School basketball returned to the court Monday night.
Hosting Warren County for a district doubleheader, the Lady Raiders got it started with a 41-31 win. The Red Raiders were unable to follow suit, falling 45-19 in the nightcap.
In the girls’ game, Coffee County got it started with a 9-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. This lead had expanded to 19-7 by halftime and remained in the double digits at 32-21 after three quarters.
The Lady Pioneers were able to climb back into it in the fourth quarter, at one point cutting it down to a 34-29 game. The Lady Raiders answered with a 3-pointer from Kealy Branch to put them back up by eight, kicking off a 7-2 scoring run for Coffee County to close out the game.
Brooklyn Carlton led the Lady Raider offense with 15 points. Branch followed with 14 points. Abbey Williams added six points. Kinley Barker drained four points. Gracie Bryan had two free throws for two points.
In the boys’ game, Coffee County bounced back from an early deficit with seven unanswered points to take a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. Warren County went on to quickly answer as the second quarter got under way, adding 16 points while holding the Red Raiders scoreless in the same span to take a 24-10 lead into halftime.
The Pioneers continued to push ahead in the second half, finishing the third quarter up 33-15. Coffee County was held to just four more points in the fourth quarter, while Warren County added another 12 points in the same span.
Eli Morgan and LT Carney both picked up seven points each to lead the Red Raiders’ scoring effort. Braxtyn Swack added five points.
Coffee County returns to action with a road district matchup at Upperman on Thursday. The girls’ game is set to tip off at 6 p.m.
