Coffee County Central High School Principal Paul Parsley presented a mockup of a potential replacement sign at the school to start off the action items during the November meeting of the Coffee County School Board.

The sign in question is located at the head of the traffic circle coming into the high school.

Parsley explained that Jamie Harden of Harden Signs, a CCCHS alum, reached out to him and asked if the school had any interest in him replacing the sign as a donation from the sign company.

Currently, the sign is supported by two brick pillars. It has a white background with the emblem of a Red Raider riding a horse, the school’s name and the slogan “Excellence in Education. Pride in Performance.”

Parsley noted that he is not exactly sure when the sign was first installed, but that it has been there for his entire tenure at the high school. He also noted that the sign has become tarnished and faded.

Harden presented three design options to the administrative team at the school who narrowed it down to two and presented those options to the student government who picked the one they like best, which was also the favorite of the administrative team.

The new sign will use the same brick pillars as the old sign but will have a more modern look with a black background, the school’s name in white lettering and the red “CC” logo at the top.

Parsley asked for the blessing of the School Board to replace the sign.

He said that the sign would be at no cost to the high school or the district and that after it was installed, he would use school funds to purchase a pair of solar lights that will go on the brick pillars.

A motion to approve the sign was made by Board member Gary Cordell and was seconded by Board member Scott Hansert. The motion was approved unanimously 9-0.

The donation from Harden signs has an estimated value of $4,000.
