Threats investigated at CCMS

Staff Report

Coffee County Director of Schools Scott Hargrove released a statement on Oct. 2 about an investigation conducted pertaining to alleged verbal threats made by a Coffee County Middle School student against fellow students and the school.

In the statement, Hargrove states that school administration engaged the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, and the matter was immediately investigated.

He also explained that the parents of the students that were allegedly threatened have been informed but no additional details can be provided and noted that threats fall under the list of zero tolerance infractions and will be handled accordingly.

“Our unwavering commitment to the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” Hargrove says in the statement. “Our schools are safe and will continue to be so.”

Hargrove encouraged parents to discuss the serious consequences and long-term effects making threats can have as well as encourage them to advocate for a positive, safe school environment.

He also encouraged anyone who sees or hears anything representing a potential school safety threat to immediately notify a teacher, staff member or administrator.
