Raider wrestling splits road tri meet with Smyrna and Oakland

The CCHS wrestling team beat the Smyrna Bulldogs 64-18, but lost to the Oakland Patriots 41-16 in a Thursday night meet at Smyrna High School.
In the Red Raiders’ dual with Smyrna, Cameron Kerr (113 pounds), Landon Spence (126 pounds), Aiden Lindsay (132 pounds), Carlos Valle-Martinez (138 pounds), William Barlow (150 pounds), Andrew Miller (165 pounds) and Zander Warick (190 pounds) all won their individual matches by a fall. Also winning for Coffee County were Giddian Mascari (120 pounds) in a 15-0 technical fall, Eli McLean (157 pounds) in a 17-2 technical fall, Joel Cruz-Martinez (215 pounds) in a forfeit and Tanner Vernon (285 pounds) in a forfeit.
Zachary Warrick (175 pounds) was the only Red Raider to lose by a fall in the match. Coffee County forfeited the 106-pound and 144-pound divisions, but still beat the Bulldog by a final score of 64-18.
Against Oakland, Barlow, McLean and Vernon each won by a decision, Lindsay won in a 15-2 major decision and Cruz-Martinez won in a 7-4 sudden victory, but the Red Raiders lost seven individual matches and forfeited the 144-pound division to give Oakland a 41-16 win. Both teams forfeited the 106-pound weight class.
On the girls side, Aime Miller (145 pounds) and Jianna Bare (152 pounds) both won by fall and Sophia Rodriguez (107 pounds) lost by a fall in their individual battles against Smyrna. Bare would also win by a fall against Oakland and Miller would lose by a fall in her individual match against the Patriots.
The girls and junior varsity members of the CCHS wrestling team are scheduled to participate in the Ramsey Rumble at Siegel High School on Saturday, Dec. 14.
