Mr. John Anthony “Tony” Jones, age 80, of Manchester, passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, in Smyrna. Mr. Jones was born April 9, 1944, in Tullahoma, to his late parents Ova Bell Burt and Jack Jones. He went to Tullahoma High School and after school enlisted with the United States Army for 12 years active duty and the United States Army National Guard for 14 years. He retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Mr. Jones served two tours in Vietnam. In 1974, he joined the Manchester Police Department having served 12 years there where he obtained the rank of Police Chief before retirement. He was a faithful member of New Union Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-father, Herman Burt; sisters, Marie (Cecil) Hazelwood, Linda (Victor) Lohorn; two brothers-in-law, Archie Bennett and Steve Sims. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann McKinney Jones; two sons, Steve (Vicky) Jones and Stacey (Helen) Jones; daughter, Stephanie (Chuck) Fulks; sisters, Phyllis Sims and Christine Bennett; four grandsons, Michael and Mark Jones, Brandon Fulks, and Ethan Jones; one granddaughter, Emily Jones; six great grandchildren. Visitation was held Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, with funeral services following at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Central Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Owen officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Tullahoma.
