Rockets shutout Cannon County in DRVC Jamboree

The Westwood Rockets beat Cannon County 22-0 in their final preseason outing at the DRVC Jamboree on Friday, Aug. 2 at Cascade Middle School.
Instead of the typical four quarters, the game was played with a 40 minute running clock with no quarter or halftime breaks and no kicks or punts.
Cannon County would have possession first, but would be forced into a hypothetical “punt” over two minutes into the drive.
The Rockets would take over on offense, and after gaining several yards, Brady Clem would break through the Lion defense and set sail to the end zone for the first score of the game. Westwood would convert on the two point conversion and take an 8-0 lead with less than 34 minutes left on the clock.
Neither team would score on the game’s next three possessions, then with over 15 minutes remaining, the Rockets scored again, this time missing the two point try, however they remained ahead 14-0.
The Lions would again “punt” on their next possession, and then the Rockets scored again with less than 10 minutes to go, then completed the two point try for a 22-0 advantage.
Cannon County would possess the ball for more than five minutes of game clock, but the drive would end in a fumble that the Rockets recovered.
Westwood’s offense seemed to break through for a score as the clock ticked down to zero, but the touchdown was called back for a block in the back, keeping the final score at 22-0.
The Westwood Rockets will open their regular season slate on the road at Fayetteville on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6 p.m.
