Lady Raiders tame Lady Lions, advance in District Tournament

On Friday night, the CCCHS Lady Raiders beat Columbia Central 7-2 at Terry Floyd Field to advance to the next round of the 4A District 9 Softball Tournament.
The visitors from Columbia would be the first to strike, scoring two runs off of a home run hit to take an early 2-0 lead.
Coffee County would respond in the bottom of the inning with a home run hit of their own as Savannah Cooper fired off a solo home run to center field to make the score 2-1.
No team would break through for a score until the bottom of the fourth inning, where Jalyn Moran sailed one to center field for a two-run home run, giving Coffee County a 3-2 lead. The Lady Raiders would pile on three more runs in the inning with Madison Pruitt scoring on a double by Channah Gannon and Maggie Montgomery hitting a two-run homer to center field to give Coffee County a 6-2 lead after four innings of play.
Paisley Campbell would hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 7-2 and the Lady Raiders would hold on for the win.
For the Lady Raiders, Maggie Montgomery had a total of three hits and two RBIs, Jalyn Moran had two hits and two RBIs, Paisley Campbell had two hits and one RBI and Savannah Cooper, along with Channah Gannon, each had one hit and one RBI.
Lily Norman would get the win in the circle, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out eight batters and walking two on 91 pitches.
The Lady Raiders will play at Lincoln County in the next round of the District Tournament on Monday, May 6 at 6:00 pm. Coffee County split the regular season series with the Lady Falcons, losing 15-1 at Lincoln County on Apr. 21 and winning 10-2 at home on Apr. 22.
