Lady Raiders split first two games of Lincoln County Border Battle

On Friday night, the CCCHS Lady Raiders beat Stewarts Creek 3-2 and fell 5-0 to Forrest in their first two games of the Lincoln County Border Battle.

Lady Raiders: 3, Stewarts Creek Red Hawks: 2

Coffee County’s first game of the day would be a low-scoring affair, as no team could break through for a score until the top of the fourth inning, where Jalyn Moran fired a solo home run to left field to give the Lady Raiders a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Raiders would score twice more in the top of the sixth inning, as Chesnie Cox scored on a single by Ella Arnold and Willow Carden scored on a line drive single by Moran to give Coffee County a late, 3-0 lead.

Stewarts Creek would attempt a comeback, scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Lady Raiders held them off for a 3-2 win.

Jalyn Moran would have two hits and two RBIs, Ella Arnold had one hit and one RBI and both Willow Carden and Chesnie Cox each had one hit for Coffee County.

Lily Norman would get the win in the circle, pitching in all six innings, allowing two runs on six hits, committing two errors, striking out five batters and walking one on 75 pitches.

Lady Raiders: 0, Forrest Lady Rockets: 5

In their second game of the night, the Lady Raiders would be shut out for the first time this season.

Forrest would set the tone early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early 4-0 lead.

The Lady Rockets would score once more in the third inning before going on to win 5-0, outhitting Coffee County 8-2.

Maggie Montgomery would register the only two hits for Coffee County and Yeidy Cruz would get the loss in the circle after pitching four innings, committing three errors, striking out four batters and walking two on 73 pitches.

The Lady Raiders will play two more games in the Border Battle on Saturday, Apr. 20 with a 9:00 am game against the Ardmore Tigers out of Alabama and a 12:00 pm contest with the Giles County Lady Cats.
