Red Raiders lead late, fall to Tullahoma

On Saturday evening, the CCCHS Red Raiders lost at home to Tullahoma after a seventh inning comeback fueled the Wildcats to a 5-4 win.

The Red Raiders would be the first to score, as Cole Pippenger scored on a double by Nate Rutledge, giving Coffee County a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Tullahoma would score twice in the top of the second inning, taking a 2-1 lead.

No team would break through in the third inning, then the Red Raiders retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Pippenger scored on a double by Bird Fellers to tie the score at 2-2, then Fellers scored on a single by Rutledge to give the Red Raiders a 3-2 lead.

Coffee County would add another run to their score in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Trey Turner fired off a solo home run to center field to give the Red Raiders a 4-2 lead.

However, the Wildcats would score three runs in the top of the seventh, to take the lead, 5-4.

The Red Raiders didn’t have an answer in the bottom of the seventh, and the Wildcats held on for the win.

Nate Rutledge had two hits and two RBIs, Bird Fellers and Trey Turner each had one run and one RBI and Cole Pippenger had two hits for the Red Raiders.

The Red Raiders had four pitchers make an appearance on the mound, as Brady Daugherty and Davis McKenzie each pitched three innings, Cole Pippenger got credit for 0.2 innings and Beau Murray would be credited with the loss after pitching 0.1 innings.

The Red Raiders have now lost four games in a row and will look to get back in the win column on Monday, Apr. 15 when they play host to Lincoln County at 6:30 pm.
