Westwood drops conference opener to Forrest

The Westwood Rockets played host to Forrest in their conference opener on Monday night, but lost in a close one, 10-8.

Westwood struck first, as a Mason Hastings single brought Davion Dycus home for a score and Westwood led 1-0 after the first inning.

Forrest would score two runs in the top of the second and another run in the third to take the lead 3-1, but Westwood scored four runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead, 5-3 heading into the fourth inning, where each team would score two runs to make the score 7-5 in favor of Westwood.

From there, Forrest took over, outscoring Westwood 5-1 in the final three innings to win the game, 10-8 despite Westwood outhitting them 7-4.

Trey Sullivan, Davion Dycus and Tucker Linzey would all score two runs apiece for Westwood with Brady Christian and Mason Hastings adding one more each.

Linzey had three hits in four at-bats along with an RBI, Sullivan had two hits, Hastings had one hit and two RBI and Jaythan Finchum had one hit and an RBI.

Hastings would be credited with the loss on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing seven runs and striking out three.

The Westwood Rockets will be back in action at Harris on Tuesday, March 5.
