On Thursday, the Coffee Middle Lady Raiders beat Franklin County 3-1, the Westwood Lady Rockets narrowly lost to Community 2-1, and the Westwood Rockets won in an 11-1 blowout over Winchester Christian.

CCMS Lady Raiders: 3, Franklin County Lady Rebels: 1

The Lady Raiders would get off to a quick start, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning as Allie Raines doubled on a line drive to center field that sent McKenzie Shelton home for a score, then Raines scored on a steal of home plate to give the Lady Raiders an early 2-0 lead.

Franklin County scored a run in the second inning to make it a 2-1 ball game, but Coffee County answered with a run in the third inning, scored by Shelton on a ground out by Raines to make the score 3-1, where it would stay through the end of the game.

Briley Apicella got the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits, striking out seven batters and walking three on 98 pitches.

The Lady Raiders are now 3-1 on the season and their next contest will be at Blackman on Tuesday, Mar. 19 at 4:30 pm.

Westwood Lady Rockets: 1, Community Viqueens: 2

The Lady Rockets scored first in the top of the first inning as Kylie Evans ran home for a score to give Westwood the early 1-0 lead.

However, the Viqueens matched with a run of their own in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning, where the Viqueens scored on error to win the game, 2-1.

Maddi Scott had another great outing in the circle, striking out nine batters and walking only three.

The Lady Rockets fall to 1-2 and they will be back in action at Liberty on Friday, Mar. 15 at 5:30 pm.

Westwood Rockets: 11, Winchester Christian Academy Lions: 1

Westwood scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead in the early going as Trey Sullivan scored on a wild pitch and Tucker Linzey scored on a passed ball.

The Lions would get on the board in the top of the third inning to make the score 2-1, but the Rockets answered back with Sullivan again scoring on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.

The Rockets would add three more runs to their score in the bottom of the fifth inning with Linzey scoring on a single from Davion Dycus, Dycus scoring on a Cole Williams single and Griffyn Woods scoring on a ground ball by Jaythan Finchum, giving the Rockets a 6-1 lead.

Westwood scored five more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, with CJ Chavis scoring on a Brady Christian walk, Mason Hastings and Hayes Shemwell scoring on a single by Dycus, Christian scoring on a Williams walk and Dycus scoring on a single by Sullivan that gave Westwood an 11-1 lead and a mercy rule win.

Chavis got credit for the win on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing just one run on two hits, striking out six batters and walking one on 68 pitches.

The Rockets have now won three in a row, improving to 4-2 on the season and their next game will be against Huntland on Monday, Mar. 18 at 5:45 pm.
