Red Raiders beat Cougars for third straight win

On Thursday night, the Coffee County Red Raiders beat Middle Tennessee Christian 13-8 for their third win in a row.
Coffee County showed some offensive fireworks early, scoring four runs in the first inning as Jayden Fellers scored after the Cougars walked Colter Neel, Cole Pippenger scored on a Brendon Sheppard sacrifice fly and Blake Hillis and Neel scored on a Brady Daugherty single, giving the Red Raiders a 4-0 lead.
The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Red Raiders would score four more runs in the second as Fellers scored on a single by Neel, Pippenger scored on a Trey Turner sacrifice fly, Neel scored on a shortstop error and Sheppard scored on a Daugherty single as Coffee County took a commanding, 8-2 lead after the first two innings.
The Cougars would score two more runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 8-4 heading into the fourth inning, where the Red Raiders answered with two runs of their own as Turner tripled to send Neel home for a score and Turner scored on a Daugherty single to make the score 10-4.
Middle Tennessee started to chip away, scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and one run in the fifth inning to make it a 10-7 ball game going into the sixth inning.
Coffee County would add another three runs in the sixth as a Daugherty bunt caused trouble for the Cougar defense, allowing Sheppard and Turner to score and Daugherty would score on another error, this time caused by a Nate Rutledge grounder.
Middle Tennessee would score another run in the bottom of the sixth but the Red Raiders held on for the win, 13-8.
Daugherty finished with four RBIs on three hits, Neel had two RBIs on three hits, Turner had two RBIs on one hit, Rutledge and Sheppard each had an RBI, Fellers had three hits and Pippenger had two hits.
Fellers would get credit for the win on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out four batters and walking two on 57 pitches.
Pippenger would get the save, pitching two innings and allowing one run on one hit while striking out three batters and walking one on 34 pitches.
The Red Raiders are now 3-2 on the season and their next game will once again be in Murfreesboro, this time at Riverdale on Friday, Mar. 15 at 6:00 pm where the Red Raiders will be looking to avenge their season-opening loss to the Warriors back on Mar. 4.
