On Wednesday night at Stewarts Creek Middle School the Coffee Middle Lady Raiders beat the Oakland Chargers to advance to the AAA Section 2 Semifinals.

The Lady Raiders had the edge to start, outscoring the Chargers 9-6 in the first quarter as the Lady Raiders defense swarmed the Chargers.

However, Oakland fought back in the second quarter, outscoring Coffee 9-3 to take a 15-12 halftime lead.

After halftime, the Lady Raiders outscored Oakland 6-2 to retake the lead, 18-17 heading into the fourth quarter.

The battle continued on into the fourth quarter where the Lady Raiders fought hard to stay in front.

Oakland would be forced to foul a couple of times and the Lady Raiders would hit their free throws and go on to win the game, 29-23.

“Once again, our defense carried us tonight,” said Coach David Vinson. “We didn’t shoot the ball as well as we could have, but we did hit some big free throws in the end. Oakland is probably the best team that we’ve played this year, and that’s the way it’s supposed to be this time of year. I’m proud of our girls for the way that pulled that one out.”

Scoring for the Lady Raiders were Hayleigh Harris and Jenslee Nogodula with nine points each, Harper Crosslin with five points and Addalyn Clark, Kinsley Pruitt and Avery Pruitt each scored two points.

The Lady Raiders remain undefeated at 23-0 as they take on Brentwood in the Section Semifinals on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 4:30 pm at Stewarts Creek Middle School.
