The Lady Rockets got their second win of the season while the Rockets improved to 10-2.
On Wednesday, the Lady Rockets found themselves in a tight battle against the Tullahoma East Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers led 11-9 after the first quarter, but Westwood outscored East 10-8 in the second, and the score was knotted at 19-19 at the half.
The Lady Rockets took control, outscoring the Lady Panthers 12-7 in the third for a 31-26 lead heading into the fourth.
From there, Westwood took care of business and held on for a 38-29 win.
“We had a few more players step up and contribute tonight,” said Coach Shala Ferrell. “I feel like these competitive, non-conference games will benefit us heading into the postseason.”
Scoring for the Lady Rockets were Zallona Dillard with 15 points, Shaylee Meadows with seven points, Amelia Johnson with five points, Jerzee Ferrell and Kylie Evans each had four and Carter Trail and Allison Russ each had one.
While the girls team had to fight for their win, the boys game was almost no contest as The Rockets won easily.
The Rockets raced out to a 16-6 first quarter lead, then outscored the Panthers 21-2 in the second quarter for a half time lead of 37-8.
Midway through the third quarter, the Westwood starters would be benched, giving the bench players a great deal of playing time.
“I love having the opportunity to put in the younger players,” said Coach Anita Gannon. “It gives them some experience in a varsity environment.”
The bench unit kept the Panthers at bay, and the Rockets won 52-19 for their 10th win of the year.
“I like that we stayed focused and worked on running our plays,” said Coach Gannon. “We came out and played as if every quarter started at 0-0.”
Scoring for the Rockets were Caleb Hill with 16 points, Mason Troxler with 14 points, Zeke Jones with nine points, Bridger Gray and Brady Christian each had three, Zane Jones, Trenton Tanner and Kingslee Miller each had two and Kaden Campbell had one.
This matchup against East Tullahoma was originally slated to take place at East Tullahoma, but it was moved to Westwood.
The next matchup for Westwood Basketball will take place at Eagleville on Thursday, Nov. 9.
