Coffee Middle splits games at Warren

The Lady Raiders battled back to remain undefeated, while the Red Raiders suffered another loss at Warren County Middle School.
Some wins come easy, and some wins have to be earned.
The Lady Raiders have had wins of both kind this season, and tonight they had to fight hard for another win.
After the first quarter, the Lady Raiders trailed the Lady Pioneers 9-7, and Warren County extended the lead in the second to lead 16-12 at the half.
The Lady Raiders did not go away quietly, and in the third quarter Coffee outscored the Lady Pioneers 16-4 to lead 28-20 heading into the fourth.
Warren County came fighting back in the fourth, but it would not be enough to beat the Lady Raiders, who won 34-31.
“We responded well in the second half,” said Coach David Vinson. “It’s another good win against a top team in our league.”
Scoring for the Lady Raiders in this game were Hayleigh Harris with 11 points, Jenslee Nogodula with nine, Avery Pruitt, Kinsley Pruitt and Addalyn Clark each had four and Brylyn McAdams had two.
While the Lady Raiders keep piling up wins, the Red Raiders are still trying to find their way.
The Red Raiders would keep it close with the Pioneers as they trailed Warren 13-11 after the first quarter, then trailed by a point at the half, 23-22.
The game was a battle through the first three quarters, and during the second quarter, Coffee coach Jonathan Oliver received a technical foul.
“One of their guys (Warren) was hooking us down low and I was trying to get the ref to watch for it,” said Oliver. “That was the first one called on me in quite a while.”
The Red Raiders trailed 37-32 after the third quarter, but the Pioneers put them away in the fourth to win 52-39.
“For the first three quarters we were right there with them, but they had more shots fall than we did in the fourth,” said Oliver. “It was a good effort by our team, but we can also learn a lot from this game.”
Scoring for the Red Raiders were Jerrad Morgan with 12 points, Jack Oliver with 10, Landyn Stiefel with six, Jaxon Pruitt with five and Ethan Arnold and Jude Golebiewski each had three.
Both JV teams for Coffee Middle had wins as well, with the boys JV game ending in overtime.
The next game for Coffee Middle will be on Tuesday night as they play host to Stewarts Creek.
