Parks and Rec. Department Assistant Director Becki Johnson issued the following statement clarifying a recent Thunder Radio article.

“On Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 an article was posted on thunder1320.com. The article has several quotes from myself, Becki Johnson. The official quote given by me was about the ice-skating rink and the reasons why we are not having it this year. The link to the recording reads’ “Hear Johnson’s full comments to Thunder Radio News here: Those comments do not include several of the comments listed in the article.
There were additional quotes that implied that multiple media outlets put out false information.
When I was approached by a patron at the front desk, I was asked about the “rumors about us having an ice rink.” I replied that “I did not know,” frankly because I did not know. I had received a text that a media source posted on social media about us having an ice rink and to purchase tickets at the Rec Center.
That was all the information I had at that time. I did not know the full name of that media outlet or that it referenced an article written by another source (which I had not read). At no time was it my intent to call out specific media outlets and accuse them of false information, I did not name any media outlets or writers. Regret that the news story was written in a way that made it seem as if l made comments with intent to do so.
I would like to publicly announce that I in no way accused the Manchester Times of reporting false information my intent was to only comment that we are not hosting an ice-skating rink and the and reasons why.”
