On Tuesday at Coffee County Central High, center fielder Chesnie Cox signed to play softball with Chattanooga State Community College.
Cox, a senior at Coffee County, plans on majoring in dental hygiene when she attends college next fall.
“I like how close it is to home,” Cox said about Chattanooga State. “I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere there and I feel good about the coaches and the team there as well.”
The Chattanooga State Tigers Softball Team has had eight Top 5 National finishes in their history in the NJCAA, including the 2012 National Title.
The team has also won 23 Region Tournament Championships and had 50 NJCAA All-Americans selected, so Cox will be joining a team that has produced many winners.
“She has a lot of tools in her game,” said Coffee County Softball Coach and Fall Athletic Director Brandon McWhorter. “She’s really grown as a hitter and she has incredible speed and can track down any ball that’s hit to her.”
Besides winning a state title in her final year at Coffee County, Chesnie Cox also has an individual goal in mind.
“I would really like to break the RBI record next year,” said Cox. “That’s something I would really like to accomplish.”
