Westwood follows Thanksgiving break with split of Community

On Monday night, Westwood basketball returned to action after a long Thanksgiving break as the Rockets won again and the Lady Rockets fell to Community.
The Westwood Lady Rockets came out fighting against the Community Viqueens, but ultimately couldn’t find a way to win.
The Lady Rockets and Viqueens locked horns in the first quarter, as the score was tied 11-11.
However, the Community Viqueens sailed ahead in the second, outscoring Westwood 12-4 for a 23-15 halftime lead.
The Lady Rockets tried to answer in the third, but were still outscored 13-9 as Community led 36-24 heading into the fourth.
The Viqueens would hold on to win 42-29.
Scoring for the Lady Rockets were Zallona Dillard with 10 points, Allison Russ with five points, Jerzee Ferrell with four points, Maci Jackson with three points, Kylie Evans and Amelia Johnson with two points each and Shaylee Meadows, Addi Teal and Carter Trail each had one point.
The Lady Rockets fall to 4-11 on the season.
Meanwhile, the Westwood Rockets came out of Thanksgiving break looking to continue their long winning streak.
The first quarter was pretty close with Westwood leading narrowly, 9-6.
The Rockets then outscored the Vikings 14-10 on the strength of Mason Troxler’s 11 second quarter points, and at the half, the Rockets led 23-16.
Westwood pulled away in the second half, outscoring Community 13-5 in the third, and 15-6 in the fourth quarter for a 51-27 win.
Scoring for the Rockets were Zeke Jones with 15 points, Mason Troxler with 14 points, Caleb Hill with seven, Isaiah Buchanan with six, Brady Christian with four, Kaden Ingle and Trenton Tanner with two points each and Trey Sullivan with one point.
The Westwood Rockets increase their winning streak to 11 games and improve to 15-2 overall with a 6-0 record at Joel Vinson Gymnasium.
Westwood Basketball returns on Thursday, Nov. 30 for their Homecoming Night against Cascade.
