Art Crawl coming to Manchester Square

Copper Daisy Art is hosting its inaugural April Showers Bring May Flowers Art Crawl around the Historic Manchester Square on May 2 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Local artists will be set up around the Square and at various businesses where they can display their various art pieces. Attendees are encouraged to stroll the Square to check out the art and some of the local businesses.
Event Coordinator Linda Robertson Gaines says that she hopes that the event offers accessibility to local art.
“When you talk about art, people look at you and all of a sudden, their eyes glass over,” she explained. “It’s like it’s a highfalutin subject, and it’s really not. It’s relaxed, and they’re not obliged to buy. It’s just so they can appreciate the art. I’m very passionate about it, and it’s such a simple thing, but it isn’t.”
Gaines started painting and drawing back in 2016 and has since moved to creating metalwork art. Some of her paintings are featured at the golden Hour Coffee Bar on Irwin Street.
She explained that she wants to highlight the abundance of talent that is currently in Manchester and the surrounding area.
“We have a lot of new people moving in, and we’d like to bring them to the Square and let people know what kind of talent we have in this area,” said Gaines. “I want to give the artists an opportunity, and there’s nothing better than buying a piece of art. Art doesn’t have to cost thousands of dollars.”
Gaines also hopes that the Art Crawl instils attendees with a new appreciation for art.
“Art is part of life,” she noted. “It gives it that little spark and I just want people to appreciate it. When they buy something, they buy it from the person themselves, so when they take it home, they know that person or are acquainted with that person. It’s personal then.”
Ideally, according to Gaines, the event will become a recurring one as new artists are coming to and sprouting around Manchester every day.
“There’s more new talent coming out all the time, and this gives them the opportunity to do something and a stage to present themselves where they might not even know what to do,” she said. “I’ve been beatin’ the bushes for artists.”
