CHS boys’ soccer draws, CCMS softball victorious in Thursday matchups

Coffee County boys’ soccer made the trip to McMinnville for a Class 3A District 9 match Thursday night.
Taking on Warren County, the Red Raiders came away with a 2-2 draw.
The result followed a 2-1 road district win for Coffee County over Columbia two days before.
The draw put Coffee County’s record at 4-5-1 overall and 4-3-2 within the district.
Middle School Softball
Coffee County 13, Tullahoma 1
The Lady Raiders needed just three innings to secure a home win over their crosscounty rival Thursday.
Addie Haley led the way at the plate with two of the team’s seven hits. Amaya Campbell, Izzy Haines, Siri Cruz, Aubrey Brown and Kayda Ferrell had one hit each.
Brown connected on three of the team’s nine RBI. Campbell followed with two. Haley, Cruz, Ferrell and Britlyn Jones each had one RBI.
Cruz took care of business in the circle, striking out seven and holding Tullahoma to one hit, one run and one walk over all three innings.
The win improved Coffee County to 11-5 on the season.
WEDNESDAY RESULTS Middle School Softball
Westwood 14, Liberty 4
Westwood got back on track in impressive fashion Wednesday evening.
Hosting Liberty, the Lady Rockets took off for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on the way to a five-inning victory.
Westwood picked up seven hits over the course of the game, led by McKenna Kehely with three. Paisley Prater followed with two hits. Elly Wild and Izzy Sartain both had one hit each.
Sartain was credited with three of the team’s 10 RBI. Wild and Kehely each had two RBI. Maleah Chavis, McClayne Finch and Harper Hiles had one RBI each.
Kehely pitched a complete game, striking out 12 and holding Liberty to two hits, four runs and three walks.
The win put Westwood at 6-9 on the season.
Stewarts Creek 13, Coffee County 2
The Lady Raiders were held to a pair of runs on the way to a four-and-a-half inning road loss Wednesday.
Haley posted three of Coffee County’s seven hits. Campbell, Cruz, Brown and Liberty Hill had one hit each.
Haley also had both of the team’s two RBI.
Brown was the team’s starting pitcher, coming out in the bottom of the third inning with six hits, nine runs and two walks. Haley took her place in the circle, adding one strikeout, three hits, four runs and three walks over the game’s remainder.

Westwood 7, Cascade

The Rockets came out on top in a close road matchup Wednesday.
Jackson Vernon connected on two of Westwood’s eight hits. Luke Christian, CJ Chavis Jr., Brock Christian, Griffyn Woods, Max Stewart and Will Levengood each had one hit.
Vernon brought in two of the team’s four RBI, with one each for Woods and Stewart.
Chavis Jr. got it started on the mound, coming off in the bottom of the fourth inning with five strikeouts, two hits, four runs and five walks. Aidyn Jones followed until the bottom of the sixth inning, adding five strikeouts, one hit, one run and five walks. Levengood took Jones’s place to close it out, finishing the game with one strikeout and two walks.
The win put Westwood at 12-8 on the season.
TUESDAY, APRIL 14 RESULTS High School Flag Football
Coffee County 33, White County 32
Coffee County completed the second-half road comeback in Sparta last Tuesday night.
Trailing White County 19-0 at halftime, the Lady Raiders came back to win by a single point on a touchdown in the final seconds.
This was Coffee County’s second win in as many days following the team’s 25-14 victory over Boyd Christian in Manchester the night before.
Middle School Baseball
Lincoln County 5, Coffee County 4
The Red Raiders cut their deficit to one run in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to overcome the Falcons in a home loss last Tuesday.
Coffee County posted seven hits over the course of the game, led by Mason Floyd and Tripp Trussler with two each. Braxton Swack, Cooper Melton and Gabe Elrod each had one hit.
Trussler and Elrod each had one RBI for two as a team.
Kasen Shelton pitched the first two innings, finishing with two strikeouts, three hits, two runs and two walks. Up next was Elrod, who added three strikeouts, four hits, three runs and two walks over the remaining five innings.
Middle School Softball
Cascade 13, Westwood 2
The Lady Rockets found themselves in an early hole on the way to a four-and-a-half inning road loss last Tuesday.
The team finished the game with three hits, including one each for Chavis, Kehely and Addison Dinwiddie.
Chavis and Kehely each had one RBI for two on the day.
Kehely went the distance in the circle, wrapping it up with eight strikeouts, seven hits, 13 runs and eight walks over the course of the game.
MONDAY, APRIL 13 RESULTS Middle School Softball
Community 11, Westwood 2
The Lady Rockets fell behind early on the way to a home loss last Monday.
Westwood finished with four hits, led by Wild with two. Prater and Finch both had one hit each.
Chavis had the team’s lone RBI.
Skyleigh Cooper pitched a complete game, finishing with four strikeouts, 12 hits, 11 runs and three walks.
FRIDAY, APRIL 10 RESULTS Middle School Baseball
Westwood 5, Cascade 3
The Rockets took care of business in a home win last Friday.
Chavis Jr., Woods, Levengood, Casen Francisco, Brock Christian and Luke Christian each had one hit for a team total of six.
Woods finished with two of the team’s four RBI, with Brock Christian and Luke Christian adding one each.
Luke Christian got it started for Westwood on the mound, coming off after five innings with four strikeouts, six hits, one run and two walks. Brock Christian followed for the game’s remainder, adding three strikeouts, three hits, two runs and three walks over the last two innings.
Coffee County 5, Siegel 3
The Red Raiders came home from Murfreesboro with a win last Friday.
Floyd was credited with two of Coffee County’s five hits. Swack, Trussler and Melton each had one hit.
The team also had three RBI, including one each for Swack, Melton and Aiden Mc-Neese.
Swack was the Red Raiders’ starting pitcher, coming off in the bottom of the fifth inning with four strikeouts, two hits, three runs and three walks. McNeese came on to close it out, adding one strikeout and three walks over the game’s remainder.
