Lady Raiders beat Alcoa, Red Raider come back falls short

On Wednesday, the Lady Raiders defeated the Alcoa Lady Tornadoes in a second half comeback while the Red Raiders couldn’t recover against the DAR Patriots.
To kick off the Lenoir City Christmas Tournament, the Coffee County Lady Raiders faced the Alcoa Lady Tornadoes in an early morning matchup.
It would be the Lady Tornadoes jumping ahead to start, as Alcoa led 16-11 after the first quarter, and outscored Coffee 19-16 in the second for a 35-27 halftime lead.
The Lady Raiders charged back in the third quarter, outscoring Alcoa 18-12 with Jules Ferrell scoring 11 of those 18 third quarter points to draw within two points of the lead as Alcoa led 47-45 heading into the fourth.
Coffee County completed the comeback in the fourth, outscoring Alcoa 19-9 to win the game, 64-56.
Scoring for the Lady Raiders were Olivia Vinson with 24 points, Jules Ferrell with 13 points, Natalie Barnes with 12 points, Audri Patton with eight points, Ava McIntosh with five points and Lilly Matherne with two points.
The Lady Raiders improved to 14-2 on the season, and they will play again tomorrow against Kingston at 3:00 pm EST.
Meanwhile, in Scottsboro, Alabama the Red Raiders started the Don Webb Classic with a loss to the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School Patriots.
The Red Raiders fell behind quickly in the first half, as the Patriots outscored them 16-10 in the first quarter and furthered their lead in the second to lead 42-27 at halftime.
Coffee County started mounting a comeback in the third quarter, outscoring the Patriots 19-5 to draw within a point heading into the fourth as DAR led 47-46.
However, the comeback fell apart in the fourth quarter, and the Red Raiders lost, 73-66.
Scoring for the Red Raiders were Jackson Shemwell with 15 points, Cooper Reed with 14 points, Brady Wright with nine points, Cayden Trail and Jayden Carter with seven points each, Jaiden Warren with six points, Courtland Ferrar with four points, Camden Hunt with three points and David Lewis with one point.
The Red Raiders fell to 6-9 on the year and will play again tomorrow, at 3:30, in the consolation bracket.
